Mcor, a hardware start-up founded by two brothers in Louth, has achieved global recognition, being honoured with a top innovation award at the world’s biggest consumer hardware event, CES in Las Vegas, for its new 3D-printing machine that could soon be in every business and school around the world.

Founded by brothers Conor and Fintan MacCormack from Dunleer, Co Louth, as a garage invention enterprise after they both left stable jobs in the aerospace and electronics industries, Mcor has set the standard for what is possible from a regional base in Ireland with imagination and hard work.

Last night at CES, Mcor’s latest 3D printer, ARKe, was named a CES 2016 Best of Innovation Awards Honoree in the 3D Printing Product category.

Mcor ARKe is the world’s, first full-color desktop 3D printer and it can 3D print any object using A4 paper.

Using an integrated print head with a DPI of 4800×2400, Mcor ARKe brings high-resolution colour to the desktop, transforming desktop 3D printing from a monochromatic age to a world of full colour.

The printer also uses a new adhesive deposition technique that reduces build time and enables more complex models to be printed.

Mcor has created an industry disrupter

“We are thrilled that our new product, Mcor ARKe, is taking home the top prize in the 3D printing category,” said Dr Conor MacCormack, co-founder and CEO of Mcor Technologies Ltd.

“It is an honour to be named a CES Best of Innovation Awards Honoree, and serves as a huge point of validation for all of the incredible work we’ve seen from the Mcor team throughout the development process.

“We believe our newest product will be an industry disrupter with its unique full-colour desktop capabilities, and are excited to be recognised as leaders in the 3D printing industry.”

‘The launch of Mcor ARKe is a defining moment for Mcor and the 3D printing industry, much like the iPhone was for Apple and the 747 was for Boeing’

Mcor ARKe has a launch price of $5,995 and the company fosters ambitions to bring 3D-printing capabilities to every school classroom and business in the world.

“Our mission is to put a 3D printer in every office, classroom, and eventually every home, and Mcor ARKe is a huge step in that direction,” MacCormack said.

“The launch of Mcor ARKe is a defining moment for Mcor and the 3D-printing industry, much like the iPhone was for Apple and the 747 was for Boeing. I believe that this is a disruptive step that will transform this industry, stimulating widespread adoption of 3D printing, particularly in education and among creative professionals. Further, we have already received over 2,500 pre-orders for Mcor ARKe and anticipate unrivalled demand in 2016.”
