A new type of ski boot, the Flip Ski Boot, has earned Dublin student Brian Byrne, 23, the Irish James Dyson award.

Byrne is a student at Dublin’s National College of Art and Design.

Years of enduring the discomfort of existing ski boot models inspired Byrne to create the Flip Ski Boot, said Byrne, who is from Dundrum.

Byrne is to receive a cheque for €2,000 in Tullamore in Co Offaly, and the win will provide international recognition for his product.
