EU to follow Irish model regarding job creation

Europe’s new jobs plan will resemble the Government’s own proposals for employment, Taoiseach Brian Cowen said yesterday.

Innovation and technology will be the EU’s focus with respect to job creation, inclusive to all groups and the green sector, the Irish Independent reported.

“Anything that helps promote a strategy that we are in agreement with, I am all in favour of,” Cowen said.

European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso’s presentation to EU leaders places Ireland sixth on the league table of unemployment across the 27 countries.

Unemployment across the EU is now at 23 million, with another 7 million people having lost their jobs in the past 20 months.
