Sixty Twitter followers of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the French Space Agency, CNES, can be in Toulouse, France, next month, for the docking of the automated transfer vehicle (ATV) Edoardo Amaldi at the International Space Station.

The space agencies are inviting 60 Twitter followers to a European SpaceTweetup, an informal and educational gathering of people who use Twitter and follow either the ESA or CNES on the microblogging service.

The Tweetup will take place at the CNES Toulouse Space Centre overnight during the docking of ATV-3, Edoardo Amaldi, set for 19 March at 04:05 CET. A joint ESA/CNES team operates ATV missions from the centre.

The Tweetup will also offer participants the chance to learn more about the ATV series of missions to the space station, how astronauts work with ATV, and the vehicles’ roles in supporting research at the station. Participants will also be able to meet and mingle with fellow fans of space.

Interested individuals who are at least 18 years old may apply for their chance to be part of the European SpaceTweetup from now until 26 February. Sixty participants will be chosen and others will be placed on a waiting list. Selected applicants will be notified by email on 29 February.

Applicants should note the Tweetup could be delayed or rescheduled based on the progress of the ATV launch and docking preparations.
