Dr Charles Wessner, the internationally recognised innovation expert who is the director of technology, innovation and entrepreneurship at the National Academy of Sciences in the US, is in Ireland this week. As part of his visit, he will be speaking about innovation and entrepreneurship at Dublin City University (DCU) and at University College Dublin (UCD).
Wessner, who is recognised for his expertise around innovation policy, including entrepreneurship, early stage financing for new firms and public-private partnerships, works closely with the US Congress and advises agencies of the US government.
He is a former director of international technology policy at the US Department of Commerce and now advises technology agencies, as well as briefing government ministers in countries in Europe and Asia.

On Thursday evening, Wessner will be giving a free lecture at the Helix at DCU at 5.30pm, where his talk will cover innovation and entrepreneurship strategy in the US.
Then, on Friday, Wessner will be speaking at the Clinton Auditorium at UCD’s Belfield campus at 5pm. The TCD-UCD Innovation Academy is hosting this event in which Wessner will be talking about the current innovation imperative globally, as well as Ireland’s innovation ecosystem.
