The US biotech and pharmaceutical manufacturing company ABEC has revealed plans to hire 100 new staff at its centre in Fermoy, Co Cork, over the next two years.
The new operation will produce engineered process equipment for biopharmaceutical manufacturing for the international market, with the 100 new jobs expected to cover all aspects of the company, including management, engineering, manufacturing, services, and business development personnel.
With the help of IDA Ireland, the company is to locate in the former 87,000 sq-foot FCI facility that occupies 13 acres of land on the edge of Fermoy town, with refurbishment works on the facility now under way.
The facility the company is moving into has been vacant for more than seven years following FCI’s closure just prior to the economic crash of 2008.
Ireland’s Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, TD, said at the jobs announcement it is a sign that we are seeing improvements in the Irish economy.
ABEC’s CEO Scott Pickering said this investment is a key component of ABEC’s broader strategy to deliver integrated process solutions on a global basis.
“The Fermoy facility will increase our capacity and allow us to better support our growing customer base in Ireland and Europe. We sincerely appreciate the support of the IDA as we establish our unique capabilities in Ireland,” Pickering added.
