Acacia Communications lights up Limerick with 30 new jobs

7 Dec 2016

Fibre optic technology player Acacia Communications is to create 30 new jobs at its EMEA/APAC headquarters in Limerick.

The Massachusetts-based company, which has a predominantly US-based workforce, will use the geographic diversity of the Limerick facility to more easily interact with customers and suppliers in the EMEA-APAC regions.

The Limerick facility will primarily support functions such as sales, supply chain, and finance.

“Ireland’s highly-skilled workforce, expansive infrastructure and pro-business environment, specifically in the Limerick area, makes it an ideal location for Acacia’s EMEA-APAC headquarters,” said Colm Cryan, managing director of Acacia’s Irish subsidiary.

“We are delighted to be here and appreciate the welcome that we have received from the local agencies and companies.”

Designing the digital future

Acacia develops and manufactures high-speed coherent optical interconnect products.

By leveraging silicon technology to build optical interconnects, Acacia claims to be able to make higher speeds possible with lower power consumption.

“These are exactly the kind of high-quality technical jobs that we seek to attract and it is a strong vote of confidence for Ireland that Acacia has decided to establish its headquarters for the EMEA-APAC area here,” Jobs Minister Mary Mitchell O’Connor, TD, said.

The investment by Acacia, supported by IDA Ireland and the Department of Enterprise, Jobs and Innovation, will encourage other telecoms equipment players to locate in the region, said IDA Ireland CEO Martin Shanahan.

“This investment represents a valuable addition to the telecommunications sector in Ireland,” said Shanahan.
