Being tech and people savvy is vital to software development – Fran Finnegan, Datalex (video)

25 Feb 2014

We spoke to Fran Finnegan from Datalex about what the travel software company is looking for in terms of software developers.

Finnegan is the organisation development manager at Datalex and he was at Career Zoo in the Convention Centre Dublin on 15 February to speak to job-seekers about what’s required in a modern software development business.

One area Finnegan feels needs to be addressed in some disciplines, such as software development, is the lack of skills in Irish graduates for the roles companies such as Datalex are offering.

“There aren’t a lot of software developers with the skills we need out there. In the last few years, I’d say nearly 50pc of those we have brought in have been from outside of Ireland.”

Finnegan does see, however, a future where software developers and employees in other technical roles need to consider having more than just these skills, but also skills to deal with customers.
