Branding is important for lesser-known companies to thrive – Oliver McKenna, Unum Ireland (video)

25 Feb 2014

We spoke to Oliver McKenna of Unum Ireland about how the largest disability insurer in the world is looking to make an impact here in Ireland.

McKenna is the company’s CEO and was at Career Zoo in the Convention Centre Dublin on 15 February, having already hired for 50 people in its headquarters in Carlow.

Currently, the company has been working mostly with C Sharp programming but is now on the hunt for people with Java experience, with the aim of establishing a strong Java team to work with a strong sense of business within Unum Ireland.

McKenna sees the importance of branding at events like Career Zoo being vital to its future success when he admits himself Unum Ireland might be the lesser-known of some companies in Ireland.

“Many people don’t know Unum and we do compete with more household brands, like the LinkedIns and the Googles, but we provide an environment with very rich career opportunities in a very long-term successful company.”
