Traditional marketing roles are fading away while digital marketing is taking over, thanks to more and more social media channels in which to promote products or services.
The number of social media channels has increased in just the past few years. Facebook first came along in 2004, and Twitter launched two years later. Today, digital marketers can also choose to use Google+, YouTube, LinkedIn and Pinterest.
A casualty of this increase in social media is the decrease in traditional marketing roles. Social media and mobile sectors have experienced great increase in demand in 2012, according to recruitment firm CPL.
Further indication of this growth is the recently established Digital Marketing Institute in Dublin, which offers diplomas courses and short courses in the subject.
Once employed, digital marketers in Ireland can expect to earn a higher annual salary in Dublin than in other regions, CPL’s Marketing Salary Guide 2012 has revealed.
A digital marketing manager in the Dublin area, for example, can earn €45,000-€75,000, while a digital marketing executive in Dublin can expect a salary of €30,000-€45,000 (salary figures for other regions in Ireland were unavailable).
