Career memes of the week: software engineer

25 Jun 2013

Following AOL Ireland’s announcement of 40 new jobs in Dublin, we salute software engineers at the cutting edge of technology in this week’s career memes.

AOL Ireland is to create 40 new software engineering roles over the next 12 months at its Dublin Development Centre.

The purpose of the new jobs, specifically within AOL Networks, is to help spearhead the delivery of AOL’s state-of-the-art programmatic advertising solutions for brands and publishers worldwide.

Basically, software engineers design, develop, evaluate, test and install software solutions. They can find work in software companies (obviously), IT consultancies, and telecommunications firms, for example.

Software engineers should have, usually, a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, information technology, or computer science, and possess good numerical, analytical, team-working, and communication skills, as well as knowledge of computer programming languages.

In Ireland, a junior software engineer can expect to pocket €19,820-€40,569 in terms of salary, according to PayScale, whereas a senior software engineer can expect to earn €42,413-€74,031 per annum.
