Cloud computing jobs not exclusive to IT people – NCI

24 Jun 2011

National College of Ireland (NCI) has launched an initiative, which aims to get the message across that whatever your background you can get a job in cloud computing.

There is a free seminar on the subject on 29 June from 5-7pm in the IFSC featuring industry speakers such as Wayne Leone, European cloud services delivery manager from IBM, and Richard Maguire, sales manager at Unity Technology Solutions.

“People are hearing job announcements about the cloud almost daily, but they have no idea how they can get these jobs. This event will show them that these cloud jobs are not only for IT people and explain how those from other backgrounds can get these new roles,” said event organiser Robert Ward from NCI.

There have been several job announcements in the area of cloud computing. Dell recently announced Dublin as the site for its first Cloud Research and Development Centre with 150 jobs. FarmVille creator Zynga, the world’s largest social game developer, announced a major office in Dublin with more than 100 staff. Aruba Networks announced it is establishing in Cork. IBM and Microsoft have also made several announcements in the cloud area in recent times.

There will be an opportunity at the NCI event to find out more about Springboard programmes – a range of courses in cloud computing that are available free of charge to people who are unemployed.
