Global pharma player Aspen to create 42 new jobs in Dublin

23 Jan 2014

Pharmaceutical giant Aspen is to create 42 jobs at its European operations centre in CityWest in Dublin, bringing total employment at the facility to 100 within 12 months.

Aspen first established an operation in Ireland in 2010. In addition, the company established a global regulatory, pharmacovigilance, quality assurance and supply projects centre of excellence in Citywest in 2012.

Aspen is a supplier of branded and generic pharmaceuticals in more than 150 countries across the world and of consumer and nutritional products in selected territories.

“Ireland’s strong pharmaceutical sector provides a workforce with the specialised skills we require and a strong regulatory and business environment,” Aspen’s group chief executive Stephen Saad explained.

Richard Bruton, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, welcomed the investment and described pharmaceuticals as a key pillar of the Irish economy.

“In particular, we have targeted generics and biopharma companies who continue to grow despite difficulties in the traditional pharma sector, and in the past two years employment has grown in the sector overall,” Bruton said.

IDA Ireland chief executive Barry O’Leary said that nine out of 10 of the world’s top pharmaceutical companies have bases in Ireland.

“As Aspen continues to grow globally through a series of acquisitions and partnerships, the Irish operation is well placed within the group to increase its footprint in Europe. I look forward to continue to work closely with Aspen as it further embeds its operations here,” O’Leary added.
