Google plans 1,000 new jobs for Europe

25 Jan 2011

UPDATE – Google’s outgoing CEO Eric Schmidt has announced Google will be creating 1,000 new jobs in Europe, split evenly between sales and engineering. Google in Dublin currently has 221 vacancies.

Google already employs around 1,500 people in Dublin and last year announced a further 200 people in a new operations centre. The new Dublin-based operations centre will be focused on the search engine giant’s location-based products, including Google Local and Google Maps.

A spokesperson for Google told Siliconrepublic.com the new jobs will be spread across the entire European region, where Google already employs 5,000 people.

She explained the jobs will be split evenly between engineering and sales and pointed out that Google is currently recruiting in Dublin. A quick tot of the Google jobs site by Siliconrepublic.com revealed that there are 221 vacancies at present.

According to a report on TechCrunch, Schmidt told the DLD Conference in Germany that Google will be adding 1,000 new employees in Europe and will make some significant investments.

“Hundreds of these people will be located right here in our technology centre in Munich,” Schmidt said.

He added he believes his next decade at Google (as executive chairman) will be more interesting than the first. “Technology will finally start doing what we want, instead of us telling technology what we want it to do.”

Google has a number of key operations around Europe, including operations in Dublin, Munich and Zurich, as well as offices in London and Sweden.
