Tech recruiter Harvey Nash has announced plans to hire 100 staff across its Dublin and Cork offices over the next two years in response to demand from tech start-ups, amid competition from other major hubs.
Harvey Nash made one of its biggest changes in Ireland back in 2013, when it made the move to open a new office in Cork, to add to its original office in Dublin, and now it is hoping to make more use of its office space.
In an announcement this morning, the company said that it plans to create 100 new jobs throughout Ireland over the coming 24 months, divided between two of its divisions.
Firstly, 40 of the newly-created roles will be directly with Harvey Nash Ireland, in the areas of recruitment and support services.
The remaining 60 positions will be spread across a number of the sectors it caters for, including life science, technology, finance and banking.
‘Employers must become more creative with their job offerings’
Harvey Nash said that this announcement comes following a significant increase in demand from these sectors, as traditional companies battle it out with more agile tech businesses to attract candidates from the limited pool of talent.
Among other factors contributing to the need for more recruiters, it said, includes the rapid success of indigenous tech start-ups, scaling to meet demand; competition for talent from overseas markets, particularly London, Seattle and Paris, and a need to meet the continuing challenge of attracting women into STEM sectors.
Speaking of the challenges facing recruiters these days, Sonya Curley, managing director of Harvey Nash Ireland, said: “Our research shows that while an attractive pay packet is extremely important, the opportunity to work on innovative projects and a better work-life balance also play a major role in an applicant’s decision to work for a company.
“With no sign of the talent shortage easing, employers must become more creative with their job offerings.”
