IDA Ireland creates 35 jobs for ‘Winning Abroad’ initiative

23 May 2014

IDA Ireland, the agency responsible for industrial development in Ireland, has created 35 jobs around the world to help it target and woo companies abroad that lack a presence in the country.

The extra staff will be hired as part of the three-year Winning Abroad programme with some main purposes: to help identify new sectors and business opportunities for Ireland; to market the country’s value and advantages as a location for inward investment to international companies across high-value manufacturing, R&D and global business services; and to generate 10,000 additional new jobs for the Irish economy.

The new employees will based in Dublin, London, Paris, Frankfurt, Tokyo, Shanghai, Sydney in Australia, the Indian cities of Mumbai and Bangalore, Boston, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Austin, and the California cities of Irvine and Mountain View.

Barry O’Leary, CEO of IDA Ireland, said the agency has had several successful years of delivering foreign direct investment for Ireland.

“Now the organisation has been given the opportunity to build on that success with additional resources to win more employment and investment from global markets.”

Winning Abroad is part of an Irish Government initiative funded by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation under the Action Plan for Jobs 2014.

IDA Ireland has appointed Frank Scott-Lennon as programme manager of the new initiative.
