11 Sep 2003

The managing director of Arekibo Communications, Martin Casey, has joined the World Summit Award Expert Panel 2003 on the Information Society as Ireland’s representative.

The World Summit Award (WSA) is an important initiative of the United Nations’ World Summit on the Information Society, which seeks to demonstrate the benefits of the information society and reduce the digital divide between developed and developing countries.

The WSA panel consists of leading multimedia professionals from each member state of the UN. As Ireland’s representative Casey will help to nominate the best global applications in e-content and e-creativity for showcasing at the World Information Society meeting that will take place this December in Geneva.

The content and creativity segments will cover the following areas: e-government, e-learning, e-culture, e-business, e-health, e-science, e-entertainment and e-inclusion.

Describing the World Information Society summit, Casey said: “It is an excellent vehicle to promote creativity in digital content and encourage interactive media-makers to push new boundaries. More importantly however, it will facilitate debate on how best to address the digital divide between developed and developing countries so that all can harness the benefits of information technology as a key catalyst for social, economic and cultural development.”

Casey’s company, Arekibo Communications, offers consultancy, design and management services to large and small Irish and international firms, including AOL, AIB, Waterford Crystal and the VHI.
