The Irish professional jobs market experienced a 1pc drop in both job availability in May and the number of new professional job vacancies available last month, The Morgan McKinley Irish Employment Monitor reports.
The May 2014 Morgan McKinley Irish Employment Monitor registered a 1pc decline to 9,368 in the number of professional job opportunities in May 2014 compared with 9,475 in April 2014.
From May 2013 to May 2014, job availability also decreased by 1pc, from 9,434 to 9,368.
An increase has been recorded, however, of 11pc in the number of professionals seeking new job opportunities, up from 8,335 in April 2014 to 9,250 in May 2014.
However, compared on a yearly basis, the number of job-seekers has declined by 9pc from 10,135 in May 2013 to 9,250 in May 2014.
IT professionals in Irish jobs market
Karen O’Flaherty, chief operations officer, Morgan McKinley, said IT professionals were more active in the jobs market in May following the receipt of annual bonuses.
O’Flaherty added that supply remains challenging, however, due to continued start-up opportunities, new projects spend and company expansions in the tech and software sectors.
“In Dublin, opportunities are mainly concentrated on senior appointments at this time and this is putting pressure on salaries in order to secure the best senior talent,” she said.
“Companies who are currently hiring are also competing with IT professionals receiving multiple job offers and this remains a nationwide concern.”
