In Ireland, the deadline to submit Change of Mind forms to the Central Applications Office is just five days away, and the Irish Computer Society is reminding students of the strength of the IT sector and the promising career opportunities it contains.
Jim Friars, CEO of the Irish Computer Society (ICS), said demand is very high for graduates and professionals with IT and/or digital skills who are ready to work in cutting-edge technology and innovation.
“It is a vibrant sector and often the jobs are cool, giving you the opportunity to quite literally write the future of technology,” Friars said.
IT jobs don’t just lie in software companies or telecommunications firms, either, said the ICS. More than 50pc of IT professionals work in the non-IT sector.
Various sectors are in want of IT professionals, as well, according to the ICS, which means graduates may have their pick from diverse roles in areas such as e-commerce, financial services, fashion, healthcare, manufacturing, and media and games development.
Ireland is in a particularly unique position, seeing as many top technology and software companies have offices on the island. Think Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Apple, for starters.
“The world is changing at a phenomenal rate and so too are career opportunities” said Friars.
“With thousands of IT job vacancies in Ireland, not to mention prospects around the world, a career in IT is a terrific choice for young people,” Friars added.
