Some 47 new advanced manufacturing jobs are to be created at Magellan Aerospace in Greyabbey, Co Down, as part of a stgĀ£6m investment.
Canadian-owned Magellan Aerospace established its presence in Northern Ireland in 2012 when it acquired local company John Huddleston Engineering Ltd. It currently employs 109 people.
The global enterprise supplies products and services to leading aerospace customers, including GKN, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, and Spirit AeroSystems.
“This investment will further enhance Northern Ireland’s aerospace sector, which is of vital importance,” Northern Ireland’s Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment Arlene Foster said.
“It will strengthen Magellan Aerospace in Greyabbey as a supplier of machining, assembly, supply chain management and logistics to the global aerospace industry. The new advanced manufacturing jobs will contribute additional salaries into the local economy, as well as introducing new manufacturing skills into Northern Ireland.”
Northern Ireland’s stg£2bn aerospace industry
Northern Ireland’s recently published aerospace strategy outlines plans to more than double revenues from the aerospace, defence, security and space sectors in the region to over £2bn per year over the next 10 years.
“With the acquisition of John Huddleston Engineering, Magellan strengthened its core manufacturing capabilities and expanded its European operations,” explained Haydn Martin, Magellan Aerospace vice-president for business development in Europe.
“This investment takes the Greyabbey plant to the next level and will enable us to support growth in our key customer programmes.”
