More high tech employers added to Career Zoo line-up this Saturday

7 Feb 2013

Registrations are ramping up for the Career Zoo jobs exhibition on Saturday in Dublin’s Convention Centre, in what the organisers say will be the biggest to date. Big names like Twitter, Yahoo!, Accenture, State Street, eBay, Amazon and PayPal will all be seeking new employees on the day.

More than 9,000 visitors attended the last Career Zoo in September 2012, with similar demand anticipated for the upcoming 9 February event. And it is not just the big multinationals that are hiring. Many Irish tech employers, such as ESB International, who are targeting experienced energy sector consultants, and OpenJaw, Enbu and IT Alliance are setting their stalls out on Saturday with an eye to the best tech talent. The Irish software sector will be well represented with the IT’s Happening Here campaign showcasing some 1,500 open roles with Irish companies.

More companies at Career Zoo

Other big names at Career Zoo include AOL, Aon, Ericsson, Fidelity, Johnson & Johnson, Openet, Sentenial, SIG, Unum and Workday, and full-time jobs will be offered in IT, engineering, pharmaceutical and biomedical, finance and accounting, sales, HR, marketing, management and more, with some 3,500 jobs on offer in total.

DCU’s CloudCORE (Cloud Computing Research Centre) is one of the supporters of the event, and the centre’s director Ray Walshe pointed to the rising demand for skilled professionals in cloud computing and data analytics. He welcomed the presence of companies like Workday and Amazon, which would provide opportunities for graduates of DCU’s new degrees in computing, like problem solving and software engineering at undergraduate level, and a master’s degree in cloud computing and in data science (2013) at post-graduate level.

Career Zoo organisers say this year’s exhibition will be even more interactive. As well as career workshops in the Tech Box, ESB International e-cars will be on display, AOL is running a ‘developers playground’, and there will be a special showcase from Dublin’s Science Gallery.

This Career Zoo will also have a strong focus on upskilling, with DIT, Skillnets, Pulse, NCIRL and the Digital Skills Academy all present on the day to give advice and workshops on how job seekers might reskill to adapt to the high demand for talent in the tech sector.

Admission to the one-day event is free of charge and visitors can register online now.

Saturday’s Career Zoo is sponsored by: Irishjobs.ie, IT’s Happening Here, Accenture, DIT and Skillnets, and siliconrepublic.com is delighted to be a media partner again this year.
