New HMV store in Galway to generate 25 jobs

2 Apr 2014

The opening of a new HMV store in Galway city centre is to result in the creation of 25 jobs, the retailer’s parent company Hilco Capital has said.

The 4,855 sq-foot shop selling music, films, games and tech products at units 3 and 4 Edward Square will bring the total number of HMV stores in Ireland to eight.

“We were delighted with the response to the integrated Xtra-vision and HMV outlet, which we launched in Galway Shopping Centre back in October of last year and felt that it was time to introduce a standalone HMV store to the city,” said Larry Howard, CEO of Hilco Capital Ireland.

While an opening date for the Galway city centre store has yet to be confirmed, stores have opened on Henry Street and in Dundrum and Liffey Valley shopping centres in Dublin; Crescent Shopping Centre in Limerick; at the Quays Shopping Centre in Newry; and Donegal Arcade in Belfast, Hilco Capital said. Another store on Dublin’s Grafton Street is also expected to open soon.

In addition, 46 dual branded Xtra-vision and HMV stores opened around Ireland in 2013 and earlier this year, including Headford Road, Galway Shopping Centre, with a further six locations opening over the next month.

Last year, Hilco Capital acquired HMV from its administrators, in a deal reportedly worth about €59m.
