Minister for Public Expenditure & Reform Brendan Howlin turned the first sod at a ceremony today marking the construction of a new sports area at Waterford Institute of Technology. The new arena is to result in the creation of 200 building jobs.
Waterford Institute of Technology is funding the €10.5m project at Carriganore, just outside Waterford city.
The new sports area will be a multi-purpose building that will house four playing pitches, ancilliary sports and catering facilities, and a conference centre that can accommodate 2,000 people.
