16 pharma and medtech companies that are hiring right now

Despite the unprecedented pressure of the pandemic, Ireland’s life sciences sector is still thriving and there are plenty of medtech and pharma jobs out there to choose from. We’ve compiled some of them here to help.

AbbVie

AbbVie has extensive operations in Ireland, including three manufacturing sites in Cork and Sligo and two Dublin offices focused on commercial and operations activities. Last year, it acquired pharma company Allergan, expanding it presence in Ireland.

It currently has vacancies across product design engineering, manufacturing, control and quality supervision, among others, which are based in Dublin, Mayo and Sligo.

Amgen

Amgen has been operating in Ireland since its acquisition of Pfizer’s facility in Dún Laoghaire in 2011. The US biopharma is also hiring in Dublin at the moment, with openings in specialist information systems and patient support.

Boston Scientific

Another US company, Boston Scientific, is also looking for new hires across Ireland. The medtech produces therapies for a number of conditions, include chronic pain and Parkinson’s disease. It has sites in Clonmel, Cork and Galway where there are openings for sourcing specialists, industrial engineers, project managers, quality engineers and more.

Bristol Myers Squibb

Global biopharma Bristol Myers Squibb produces medicines for serious diseases. It has a number of vacancies in Dublin at the moment where it is looking for a reliability technician, an upstream bioprocess associate, a downstream manufacturing specialist and a supply planning manager. Many of its open roles are based at its biologics facility in Cruiserath.

Hovione

In October of last year, Hovione announced plans to expand its team in Cork. The pharmaceutical manufacturer had partnered with biopharma Ligand to boost production of Captisol, a stabilising component is used in Gilead’s Covid-19 treatment Veklury. Hovione is still recruiting in Cork, with openings for buyers, supply chain planners, project managers and more.

Johnson & Johnson

Global biotech Johnson & Johnson has been a household name in Ireland for decades. Its vacancies are spread across its sites, which include Janssen Biologics, Janssen Pharmaceuticals and DePuy Synthes in Cork and Vistakon in Limerick. The opportunities are in regulatory affairs, security and risk management, process, quality engineering, moulding and more.

Medtronic

Medtronic, a medical devices provider, has its corporate headquarters in Dublin and a manufacturing facility in Galway. It specialises in minimally invasive and restorative therapies. At the moment, Medtronic is hiring across quality engineering, R&D, analysis, UX, design and more.

MSD

Another global company with extensive reach in Ireland is MSD, which manufactures medicines, vaccines, biological therapies and animal health products. Its current opportunities include a QC senior bioassay specialist in Carlow, an API IPT process engineer in Ballydine, a LIMS administrator in Brinny, an associate director in MS&T engineering in Dunboyne.

Novartis

Novartis, a global healthcare company led out of Switzerland, has lots of vacancies in Ireland at the moment. At its global service centre in Dublin, it’s hiring for an investor relations associate, a global head of HSE due diligence, a research analyst and more.

Pfizer

One of the world’s biggest biopharmas, Pfizer has been one of the companies making headlines for its Covid-19 vaccines.

It has a variety of open roles across its sites in Grange Castle, Newbridge, Shanbally and Ringaskiddy with opportunities for automation technical analysts, quality leads, safety specialists, process scientists and more.

Regeneron

US biotech Regeneron is recruiting at its sites in Dublin and Limerick. Regeneron develops medicines for people with serious diseases. At the moment, it’s looking for biotech production specialists, QC analysts, process scientists and more to join its team.

Roche

Another biotech, Roche, is also hiring. Roche operates three functions in Ireland; its pharmaceuticals product office in Dublin, a manufacturing facility in Co Clare and Roche Diagnostics, which provides in-vitro diagnostics.

It has opportunities in data engineering, UX design, data engineer and more.

Sanofi

Sanofi is a French biopharma company with an Irish facility in Co Waterford. It specialises in diabetes and cardiovascular diseases in particular but also has research programmes in oncology and rare diseases.

Sanofi is currently hiring across regulatory affairs, microbiology, quality control, process engineering and more.

Sogeti

Sogeti Ireland announced hiring plans last month when it launched a dedicated life sciences practice. It said it would create 50 jobs for Cork, Dublin and Galway over the next three years. Its current vacancies span quality and compliance engineering, full-stack development and automation testing, among other areas.

Stryker

Stryker is a key player in the global medtech scene, with operations in more than 100 countries. Here in Ireland, it has manufacturing and R&D sites in Cork and Limerick and a Northern Irish site in Belfast.

Stryker is currently on the lookout for manufacturing and automation engineers, programme managers, surveillance managers and more.

WuXi Biologics

Finally, China’s open-access biologics technology platform, WuXi Biologics, is hiring at its biopharma manufacturing facility in Dundalk, Co Louth.  Its current opportunities include an operational excellence lead, a maintenance technician and QC microbiology scientists.
