Half of workers want social media banned in the office (infographic)

More than half of people want social media banned in the workplace, according to a recent survey.

Marginally more men (57pc) than women (51pc) would like to see social media banned in the office, with the primary reason being that “it’s a distraction”.

The survey, conducted on professionals aged 20-45 in the US and UK by Scredible in May this year, also found that almost two-thirds of individuals (64pc) primarily use social media for keeping in touch with friends.

Despite all the talk we hear about people looking for and finding jobs on social media, there was a marked difference between how important social media was considered in a professional context by those in the UK and the US.

While nearly half (48pc) of those in the US considered their online profiles to be “very important” for their careers, only 22pc of UK survey respondents felt the same.
