Fast-growing community accommodation rental marketplace Airbnb is joining the expanding community of internet giants located in Dublin and has begun hiring for positions at a new operation in the city.
Airbnb’s decision to locate a hub in Dublin has been the subject of mounting speculation for months now and this is the first concrete evidence that an operation is definitely on the cards.
There are four positions advertised on the company’s website, including HR generalist, customer experience aircorps representative, director of hospitality and customer experience lead.
In recent months, daily deals site Groupon also began hiring for at least 30 positions before officially announcing plans for a new international marketing headquarters in Dublin’s St Stephen’s Green area.
Founded in 2008 by CEO Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia and based in San Francisco, California, Airbnb is a community marketplace for people to list, discover, and book unique accommodations around the world – online or from a mobile phone.
The service connects its community to unique travel experiences in 30,000 cities and 192 countries.
Available accommodation listings include private rooms, apartments, castles, boats, manors, tree houses, tipis and private islands.
Users must register and create an online profile and each property is associated with a host who is ranked and recommended by other users.
The company has raised US$119.8m in venture funding from Y Combinator, Greylock Partners, Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, DST Global Solutions, General Catalyst Partners and investments from actor Ashton Kutcher and singer Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary.
