The latest gaming positions from our Jobs Board

We take a look at the latest jobs in the video-games industry on our Jobs Board. A Forfás report has predicted that the number of people employed in the sector will more than double to more than 5,000 by 2016.

PopCap Games

Casual video-games company PopCap Games is advertising for four different positions within its Dublin operations.

It’s looking for a game developer who will work on creating new games and updating its existing games with new content on iOS and other platforms. Candidates should have four years or more of professional game-development experience with C++. They should have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and should have experience in working with multiple programming and scripting languages.

PopCap Games is also looking for a senior game designer to work on a small development team to adapt existing titles and create brand spin-offs with the ability of moving the studio to original IP development for handheld, mobile and social platforms. Candidates should have eight years or more experience working in the games industry, with hands-on design experience on triple-A brands or titles. While a bachelor’s degree or equivalent is preferred, it’s not essential as past experience will be taken into account.

The company is seeking a software engineer (Web) to develop scalable and robust web-based game services for its titles on Facebook, Android and iOS. He or she will design, develop, test and maintain modular frameworks for these services. Candidates must have five years or more of experience in professional software development and experience in web service design with extensive use of OOP and testing methodologies. They should also have experience in common languages for web services development, such as PHP, Python, Java or Ruby. A degree in science, engineering or a related field is preferred but not required, as past experience is taken into account.

PopCap Games is also looking for a partner marketing manager for the EMEA regions under an eight-month contract to cover maternity leave. He or she will be responsible for helping maximise revenues by managing the execution of marketing actions in conjunction with the company’s partners. Candidates should have at least five years of experience in marketing or product management, with strong negotiation and analytical skills. They should also have a degree or professional qualification in business or marketing.

Big Fish Games

You may recall casual games provider Big Fish Games’ announcement that it would expand its cloud gaming research and development initiative to create 30 highly skilled jobs. The company posted eight jobs advertisements on our Jobs Board for these Cork operations.

Among these listings, Big Fish Games is looking for a software design engineer for cloud gaming. Candidates should have one to two years of experience as a software engineer with a strong background in either Java or C++. They should also have working knowledge of data structures, algorithms and object oriented design, as well as have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or the equivalent experience.

It also wants a web developer for cloud gaming with a strong command in CSS, HTML, JavaScript, cross-browser development techniques and browser degradation strategies. Candidates should have three years of experience with a proven track record of launching interactive websites or applications

Big Fish Games is also hiring for the role of NOC administrator to respond to various system alerts and to monitor its networks for anomalies. They will also support the operations group to ensure uptime and system functionality for various gaming platforms. They’ll contribute to automation projects, system maintenance and physical hardware installation. Two years of production-facing Linux experience, Perk, Shell and PHP are needed, along with fundamentals in SNMP, TCP/IP and DNS. An associate’s degree is required, though a bachelor’s degree is a plus.

Activision Blizzard Ireland

Video-games company Activision Blizzard is looking for localisation QA testers fluent in Norwegian, Swedish or Finnish, with excellent written and spoken English. Candidates must also have experience playing a variety of genres on gaming consoles and experience working as part of a team. This full-time role will be for a fixed period of three months initially with a possibility of an extension.
