Packaging, supply chain and logistics company The Packaging Hub is creating 40 new positions at a new healthcare facility in Waterford, expecting to fill the roles by the end of 2018.
Known as the company’s packaging manufacturing facility and healthcare logistics centre, The Packaging Hub’s new office will open up new business opportunities in the healthcare industry.
Minister for Jobs Mary Mitchell O’Connor, TD said part of her role is spreading the growth in jobs around the whole of the country, with this announcement an example of such a brief.
“The Packaging Hub’s expansion and growth, and the jobs associated with it, is a welcome boost for the local economy and community in Waterford City and County, and it follows on from recent jobs announcements which shows that there is a momentum growing for jobs in regions around Ireland,” said Mitchell O’Connor.
Hundreds of jobs have been announced in separate company expansions in Waterford in recent months, with pharma, medtech and insurance businesses attracted to the region.
In April it was revealed that 200 highly skilled jobs were to be created at the Waterford-based healthcare company OPKO Health, as part of the future expansion of the EirGen Pharma facility in Westside Business Park.
In particular, OPKO plans on growing EirGen’s presence in the south-east region over the next five years. It is using the new site, as well as the establishment of an R&D centre with manufacturing capabilities for new sterile fill finish and dry powder inhalation products, to achieve just that.
In July, pharma giant Sanofi finally put through its name-change at the company’s Waterford plant, bringing in 40 new staff as it rebrands from Genzyme Waterford to Sanofi Waterford.
Last month, Se2 (a third-party technology administrator for the insurance industry) said it is growing its workforce from 70 to 135, with the jobs rolling out over the next three to four years.
According to Janet Dulohery, the company’s VP and head of human resources, the recruitment process will seek out “ambitious people, who are similarly enthused about making a real impact on the US life and pension industry”.
Earlier this month, transit software company RouteMatch crossed the Atlantic from Georgia in the US to expand its R&D team in Waterford. 25 new roles will be created over the next 12 months.
This employment opportunity by The Packaging Hub brings the total number of jobs announced in recent months close to the 400 mark.
Director of The Packaging Hub George Banks said: “This is a very important stage in the development of the business and we appreciate the support of Enterprise Ireland in helping us to reach this level.”
