Also showing strength is hiring activity in the Irish economy, according to the report, which registered a 5pc increase in the number of jobs (9,475) available in April compared to the same month last year, when 9,034 jobs were available.
The number of new professional job opportunities also increased, by 4pc, from 9,142 to 9,475 from March to April of this year.
Another increase has been seen in the number of professional job-seekers entering the market. There was a sequential monthly increase of 19pc from 6,985 in March to 8,335 in April of this year.
However, there has also been a decrease of 16pc in the number of professionals seeking new career opportunities compared to the same month last year.
Employ trends and where demand exists
Karen O’Flaherty, chief operations officer of recruitment agency Morgan McKinley, addressed employment trends and high job demand in other sectors.
Headcount constraints and the challenge of sourcing IT professionals on a permanent basis is behind the shift from permanent to fixed-term contracts in the ICT sector.
The insurance and banking industries are seeking compliance, risk and project management candidates, and healthy demand exists for senior finance candidates and internal audit professionals across all levels, O’Flaherty said.
More job opportunities are emerging in the supply-chain sector, with roles for warehouse, materials planning and materials management professionals.
“We see this as a positive development and indicative of the improvement in the Irish retail market,” O’Flaherty said.
