Virgin expansion bringing 120 jobs to Limerick ‘immediately’

3 Feb 2017

In a bid to up its headcount to 400 people in Limerick, Virgin Media is on a recruitment drive, seeking 120 people at its national customer experience centre.

Virgin Media claims increased demand is forcing its hand, with added numbers needed to manage the increased workload.

120 jobs are being created immediately, and will all be situated at Virgin’s Roxboro offices in Limerick.

The full-time roles include customer care specialists in billing and sales, as well as a number of specialist back-office finance roles.

Calling the development great news for the region, Virgin Media CEO Tony Hanway said his company is looking for talented people to work in the centre.

“Our customers have been telling us they love dealing with our Limerick-based team, so we’re thrilled to be growing our Irish-based service capability to ensure we deliver the best possible Virgin customer experience,” he said.

“Digital services are a huge part of our daily lives and Virgin Media is playing a central role in shaping and supporting the digital transformation of Irish society.”

Virgin Media also revealed it is expanding its ‘superfast’ broadband plans, aiming to connect 10,000 more homes and businesses to the network when the upgrade is completed.

Hanway said his company currently has 834,000 customers, including homes and businesses, hooked up to the broadband network.

In January, Virgin Media created a Netflix app on its TV set-top boxes, part of a six-month introductory offer.

The move followed news in December that Virgin Media users who have Horizon boxes can access the streaming service as part of an integrated menu.

New customers, and customers wishing to upgrade, will be given six months of Netflix on their Virgin TV service – thereafter, their own Netflix subscription will commence.

Last October, four months after revealing its pursuit of UTV Ireland, Virgin Media received regulatory approval for the deal.

The deal, thought to be valued at €10m, brings Virgin’s outlay on Irish broadcasters to almost €100m. Last year, TV3 was acquired by Virgin for €87m.
