Big demand for software developers – Morgan McKinley

22 Sep 2011

There’s a big demand for software developers, who in some cases can command up to 20pc increases in salary in Ireland, according to recruitment firm Morgan McKinley.

The record demand for IT professionals in general is forecast to continue for the rest of the year and is particularly pronounced for IT software developers in Dublin (particularly Java, .NET and C++ specialists) where demand is at the highest point ever, said Trefor Murphy, operations director, Morgan McKinley.

“The August 11 Morgan McKinley Irish Employment Monitor recorded a 172pc increase in the number of new IT jobs in Ireland, compared to the same month last year. New IT jobs coming onto the market in August 11 were from a healthy mix of multinational corporations and indigenous companies, to support a variety of start-up and ramp-up projects,” he said.

“In Dublin, there was a 30-40pc increase in the number of new IT software development roles from July 11 to August 11. Demand currently exceeds supply in many areas, and companies with slower recruitment processes are currently at risk of losing out on top talent.”

Morgan McKinley is hosting an Open Evening for IT software developers on 27 September (6-9pm) at Connaught House, Number One Burlington Rd, Dublin 4.
