The web would be a pretty dull and sparse place without web developers, so this time our career memes of the week turn the spotlight on those professionals who help give us a reason to bookmark websites.

A web developer’s job is to build and maintain websites and therefore some skills he or she requires are knowledge of programming languages, such as HTML, PHP, Java, C++ and CSS, web application development processes, database technologies, solid communication skills in order to interact effectively with peers, managers and clients, and an understanding of the benefits of SEO can come in handy, too.

Web developers usually have formal education and training, and in the Republic of Ireland they can expect to earn an average salary of €20,858-€61,444, according to PayScale.com.
