Career Zoo: Interview with Niamh Bushnell, Dublin commissioner for start-ups

26 Feb 2015

Attending her first Career Zoo as Dublin’s commissioner for start-ups, Niamh Bushnell spoke to Siliconrepublic.com about how important these events are for budding entrepreneurs and job-seekers alike.

Bushnell is now a few months into her role, having started in September 2014. At the time she said Ireland’s capital city has made a name for itself as one of the best places in the world to start a business.

And as the face of all things start-ups in Dublin, Bushnell took part in Career Zoo at the Convention Centre Dublin on 21 February to host a panel for people of all ages on why they might want to work for a start-up and what it entails.

Since start-ups are companies with no long-term history, job-seekers are asking questions, such as whether a start-up can offer the same benefits and work environment as an established corporation, for example.

What is certain, however, according to Bushnell, is there still needs to be greater collaboration between different groups, particularly between academia and start-ups.

“We need to recognise that we need to put diverse teams of people together to create that magic, to create that energy, to create those ideas and innovation that prompts people to breed start-ups.”
