CarTrawler to create 50 jobs and new hybrid working model

7 Jul 2021

The new roles will be across product and technology, operations, commercial and customer service and will be based at the company’s Dublin headquarters.

Irish travel-tech company CarTrawler is creating 50 new roles in Dublin as part of a €10m investment package.

The company, which provides car rental and mobility solutions, announced the jobs as part of a new operating model, which will see hybrid working become permanent for its employees as well as the introduction of an equity pool.

The new roles will be across product and technology, operations, commercial and customer service.

They will be based at the company’s Dublin headquarters, which will be redesigned to suit a hybrid working environment, with areas for information sharing, team-based working, social connection and quiet areas.

CarTrawler’s CEO, Cormac Barry, said the company is shifting to an operating model that allows staff “to do their best work when and where they want”.

“We are also delighted to announce these new roles in a clear signal of our big ambitions for the business. People want to travel more than ever, and we’ve seen a significant uptick in regions like the US where there is freedom of movement but also strong signals of pent-up demand in places like Europe, where restrictions continue to fluctuate.”

While the travel-tech industry took an unsurprising hit due to Covid-19 restrictions, businesses have started to pick up steam in recent months.

California-headquartered company Deem restarted its Ireland recruitment plans earlier this year, while Barcelona’s TravelPerk raised $160m to expand in Europe and the US.

CarTrawler has also been growing its presence, having inked a deal with Uber in April to power the company’s car rental service.

The two companies claim that car rentals will help reshape transport post-pandemic, especially in urban settings, and to reduce dependency on private car ownership – a familiar tenet of Uber’s ride-hailing business.

CarTrawler, which was acquired by TowerBrook last year, also recently partnered with Hopper, a travel booking app that also includes car rentals.
