Computer game systems maker Alienware Corporation is to create 80 new jobs in Athlone, siliconrepublic.comhas learned.

The company will be creating the new jobs at the Bliary Industrial Estate in the town where it already employs 20 workers. Alienware Corporation manufactures high-performance computer gaming desktop and mobile systems, digital video editing workstations and high-performance graphics workstations. It is understood that the new jobs will be in the areas of customer support and technical support.

The news comes two months after contract electronics manufacturer Manufacturers Services Limited announced that it was to close its Athlone operation with the loss of 200 jobs.

It is understood that Athlone was rejected as a location by internet auction giant eBay, which yesterday announced plans to create 800 new jobs in Dublin.
