Cork business services company announces 100 new jobs

Clonakilty-based business services company SouthWestern has announced it will create more than 100 new business support jobs this year.

The Irish-owned company, which was formerly part of the SWS Group and provides front and back-office business services to public and private sector organisations in Ireland and internationally, already employs 450 people at its base in Clonakilty, Co Cork, as well as 200 people in Lodz, Poland. Customers include O2, the Injuries Board, Topaz Energy, Irish Distillers and Independent News and Media.

The company’s chief executive Jim Costello also announced this morning that SouthWestern has been awarded a new contract by the Department of Agriculture for the registration of the movement of animals. The Minister for Agriculture, Brendan Smith TD, visited the company today to mark the awarding of that contract.

The minister said that SouthWestern’s partnership with the department was an example of an effective public private partnership and that he was pleased to see at first hand the facilities that underpin the day-to-day operation of the outsourced components of the calf registration system and the farm-to-farm movement system.

“We take on the operation of tech-based administrative services for businesses in the private and public sectors,” said Costello. “It means lower costs and improved performance for those businesses and it’s a model that has great potential in other parts of the economy.”
