Ennis-based educational software company Myschoolyear is planning to create 20 to 30 new jobs in the next two years.
Myschoolyear is focused on creating an online diary and electronic portfolio solution for the post-primary education market. The company’s software is hosted in the cloud.
Its first electronic portfolio product My Transition Year (has been developed for Transition Year Students and is currently being used in 102 schools by 3,000 students and teachers on a daily basis.
The company is now in discussions with relevant State agencies to have its E-Portfolio Solution approved to cover all subjects for the new Junior Cycle Student Award, which replaces the Junior Cert.
Job creation
The company is also working with Enterprise Ireland and Westbic in Galway to secure funding to expand the business and build out the team.
Myschoolyear hopes to create 20 -30 jobs in Ireland over the next two years and plans to open a Office in London to target the UK Schools Market.
Founder Kieran O Brien has over 20 years experience as a staff trainer and educator in the hospitality education sector.
While volunteering with the deaf community, he developed a driver education programme using sign language, which provided students with both the theory and practical experience to allow them to complete their driving test.
In 2001, he set up the Irish School of Excellence that has since grown to become Ireland’s largest driver education programme for secondary schools.
To date, 10,000 students have completed the programme and it is now offered in 220 Secondary Schools across the country in English, Irish, Polish and Sign Language.
