eSentire to create 100 new jobs in Cork over the next five years

27 May 2015

Cork woke up to good jobs news this morning as Canada-based cybersecurity company eSentire announced it is to create 100 new jobs over the next five years at a new European HQ and Security Operations Centre.

Ontario-based eSentire combines people, process and technology to provide its flagship Active Threat Protection service to mid-sized enterprises, providing them with advanced cybersecurity capabilities.

The company’s security operations centre analysts detect and mitigate threats that traditional security technology can miss. The company has grown rapidly — more than tripling its size in the last three years.

The company said its greatest challenge is finding talented security forensics analysts, software development and sales professionals to join its expanding team.

“We evaluated several locations within Europe to expand our business and establish an EU base to better serve our clients on both sides of the ocean,” explained eSentire’s CTO Mark McArdle.

“We were extremely impressed with the technical talent in Cork and the ecosystem the Government has helped to develop to fill the skills gap, specifically in the demanding and competitive field of cybersecurity.”

IDA Ireland CEO Martin Shanhan said the company was attracted to Cork due to the solid pool of security talent avaialble.

“The creation of up to 100 new jobs offers a great opportunity for talented software engineering graduates to join a rapidly expanding IT security business, focused on tackling the increasing threat of cybercrime globally,” Shanahan said.

Jobs Minister Richard Bruton said that cybersecurity is a specific area the Government has been targeting under its Action Plan for Jobs.

“Today’s announcement that eSentire, a leading company in this area, is establishing a European HQ in Cork and creating 100 extra jobs, is another important boost.”
