Northern Ireland economy minister Diane Dodds said the region’s “skilled workforce” attracted EverQuote and that the new jobs will inject more than £3.7m into the local economy through salaries.

Invest NI is supporting the investment through funding of £420,000. The agency said on Twitter that it is the company’s intention to “open the centre in Belfast but staff will initially work from home”.

EverQuote offers an online insurance marketplace where consumers can connect with providers. It has teams in Massachusetts and Washington state and currently employs 425 people in the US.

The company’s co-founder and chief technology officer, Tomas Revesz, said: “We started considering locations for the new development centre in early 2020 and were recommended to consider Northern Ireland. The combination of talent, capability and the strong cluster of insurtech companies that we found when we visited Northern Ireland really impressed us.

“As a company, we also place significant importance on providing meaningful skill and career development opportunities for our people. We were keen to ensure we had the ability to work with local universities to create a team that has a blend of both experience and new talent. The calibre of the two universities and the graduates they are producing made Northern Ireland very attractive to us as well.”

Invest NI CEO Kevin Holland said that the focus will be on product development roles, with the view to helping EverQuote “drive engineering and software excellence to support its US operations” as well as expand into health, rental and direct-to-consumer markets. The agency added that the new jobs will attract “high-level salaries”.
