Recruitment via social media is a continuing trend, and top of the game is LinkedIn, though Twitter also plays a vital role as a platform to share job announcements, particularly through the hashtag #jobfairy. Facebook is not one to be left out, though, and with its new Social Jobs App hopes to make it easier to find and share employment opportunities online.
In total there are more than 1.7m jobs currently hosted on the app, and they’re not just based in the US. Positions available in Ireland, the UK and other countries across Europe are posted on the app, which is powered by services like Monster.
A survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers in the US (a member of the Social Jobs Partnership) found that 50pc of employers were using Facebook in their hiring process, and 54pc of those felt the social network would become a more integral part of recruitment in future.
The purpose of the Social Jobs App is to use Facebook’s popularity as a sharing platform to better spread the word and connect jobs with job seekers. On the other hand, it’s another arena where Facebook wants to compete with social networks like LinkedIn and Twitter.
