Graduates need to learn on latest platforms – Storm Technology CEO (video)

18 Feb 2014

Karl Flannery, CEO of Storm Technology, spoke to us at Career Zoo about his own career path, recruitment challenges faced by the industry and what skills he thinks graduates should focus on for future jobs.

Representatives from business technology consultancy Storm Technology were at Career Zoo in Dublin on 15 February to find candidates for open roles, such as software solutions architect, SharePoint developer, Dynamics CRM developer and technical infrastructure engineer.

As a Microsoft partner, Storm needs graduates and professionals who have experience with these systems and technologies. However, Flannery explains, the company faces the same challenge affecting the tech sector as a whole, which is that “they’re looking to hire more people than are available”.

There’s also a challenge in finding graduates with the right skills as many are learning on older platforms. Flannery asks why students now are learning C++ and not C-sharp, and says education must move on to the latest platforms where possible.
