HealthBeacon has developed a digital platform that not only ensures patients adhere to their injectable treatments, but also allows them to dispose of medication in a safe way and keeps carers up to date with the patients’ progress.

“The technology is manufactured in Dublin and will soon be exported around the world,” CEO Jim Joyce said.

“Connected medicine is revolutionising medication adherence. HealthBeacon connects real-life data about a patient’s behaviour and so can provide powerful clinical insights and targeted interventions to improve treatment and outcomes. We are excited to see our smart tool expand and assist clever patient medication management globally.”

The company’s Smart Sharps System helps patients adhere to their medication schedule. Current estimated costs to manage medication non-adherence are estimated to be $290bn in the US market alone.

The use of HealthBeacon smart technology aims to make a dramatic impact to cost savings within the healthcare industry.

“The expansion of HealthBeacon and the creation of an additional 20 jobs once again underlines Ireland’s position as a hub for high-end technology,” said Ireland’s outgoing Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD during a trade mission to North America.

“When coupled with our highly skilled talent pool, it makes Ireland a very attractive proposition to invest and expand, and the Government will continue to make the right policies to ensure that businesses like HealthBeacon can continue to thrive.”
