Increased demand for technical contractors in Ireland – Morgan McKinley

12 May 2011

Professional recruiter Morgan McKinley has set up a team dedicated to filling interim technical roles in Ireland, in response to increased demand for contractors in this field.

The recruiter is predicting further growth for technical positions in the second quarter of this year, with export-led manufacturing companies expected to provide the highest number of job opportunities.

Led by Sharon Ryan, the new specialist team in Dublin will supply technical contractors across a range of sectors including: supply chain, procurement, operations, engineering, process improvement, Six Sigma, life sciences and energy.

Before the recession, the majority of demand for technical contractors was from the manufacturing and construction sectors. However in the past few years the pressure on professional firms to keep their teams ‘lean’ has increased the popularity of technical contractors, who are seen as efficient and flexible solutions, according to Morgan McKinley.

“More and more companies are hiring technical contractors to undertake specific projects, provide extra resources during busy periods or maintain a flexible workforce during times of uncertainty. Contractors are seen as cost effective professionals who can ‘hit the ground running’ to make strategic improvements to business,” said Ryan.

“Contracting is also becoming an increasingly attractive career option for technical staff due to the high pay rates, flexibility, independence and exposure to a variety of systems and organisations that it affords.”
