Jaguar Land Rover is expanding rapidly at its Shannon site over the next couple of years.
When you think of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) for the first time, you might simply think of the cars it produces.
However, with the huge advancements in the autotech industry, those who want to work in technology could find the perfect home at the car manufacturing company.
JLR intends to become an international leader in autonomous driving software. A huge amount of the work needed for this is taking place in the software development centre in Shannon.
John Cormican, the general manager of vehicle engineering at JLR, said the team will soon be able to move into the brand new JLR state-of-the-art campus. “In the garage, it’s more or less an advanced R&D workshop for our vehicles.” He said the garage will consist of 25 vehicle bays with full test facilities.
“We’re hiring a lot of different skilled engineers, folks who have skills in machine learning, artificial intelligence, validation, benchmarking, embedded software, cybersecurity, functional security and a whole bunch of different areas that will apply to our new products going forward.”
For those interested in those roles, we wanted to find out what would make a JLR candidate stand out, so we spoke to business analyst Nicole Finucane. “I think a great employee in JLR is someone who has a get-up-and-go attitude,” she said. “It’s great to see someone come in and get stuck in and work with the team because we’re working on some very exciting projects.” She added that ideal candidates really need to have a passion for what they do and not be afraid to jump in.
Gido van Wijk, a software engineer at JLR, said the speed at which the company is expanding is a great thing to see, especially since there were only about 25 people in the office when he started. “Seeing new people every month, new faces, is really something that’s been one of the best things about working at JLR,” he said.
