Security software giant McAfee is to establish an R&D centre of excellence in Cork and with it, up to 60 new jobs.

IDA Ireland is supporting the establishment of the worldwide Centre of Excellence for Enterprise Security Solutions.

The enterprise engineering group is being created as a dedicated engineering team to provide fast, efficient engineering responses to sales opportunities for the company.

Within this group, McAfee will create a number of small specialised engineering teams in Cork that will be responsible for designing and building new features for its key enterprise customers.

These newly formed Scrum teams will interact directly with global customers to design and deliver multiple releases per year across its security portfolio.

McAfee is looking for software engineers with knowledge of Java and C++, who are dynamic and passionate about software development and have secure software development principles.

“McAfee offers excellent career opportunities within the organisation in Cork, and indeed globally,” said McAfee co-president Mike DeCesare.

“We are hiring highly talented and experienced software engineers, who will work alongside our current 342 employees in Cork, 110 of whom work within the engineering group.”

Drive to get more Irish businesses online

Taoiseach Enda Kenny, TD, said the Irish Government, through its Action Plan for Jobs, wants to get more Irish businesses online and this latest investment by McAfee will develop new services to make it easier and more secure for businesses to continue their online growth.

“Ireland continues to win new investment from global companies like McAfee and it is another positive step on Ireland’s journey towards economic recovery,” Kenny said.

IDA Ireland CEO Barry O’Leary said the establishment of McAfee’s new centre in Cork is a significant addition to the company’s presence in Ireland.

“Enterprise is a rapidly growing sector for McAfee and this new centre positions Cork as a development leader in this space within the corporation, by being at the forefront in providing solutions to McAfee partners, thereby winning new deals and retaining existing partner relationships,” said O’Leary.
