A new programme is set to provide places on a career-focused programme for 100 jobseekers that have been out of work for three months or more.

Career coaching company, Career Decisions, has announced it is providing 100 places on its Diploma in Career Coaching programme to jobseekers who have been unemployed for a greater duration than three months.

The programme, the only career coaching qualification available in Ireland accredited with an NFQ Level 7 Diploma by Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), is financed by the Government’s Labour Market Activation Fund through the European Social Fund’s Human Capital Operational Programme 2007-2013.

Part-time commitment two days a month

Career Decisions managing director, Miriam Magner-Flynn said: “This diploma in career coaching involves a part-time commitment of two days per month, over seven months, and will be delivered in key regional centres to accommodate people nationwide. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis to applicants who successfully get through the recruitment process for the diploma. The level of demand is already very high with approximately 40pc of places allocated to suitable applicants who are eager to grasp this unique opportunity to graduate with a sought-after, internationally-recognised professional qualification.

“The diploma has been framed to address the shortage of career coaches in Ireland with formal qualifications, and accredited with recognised professional bodies. There is a significant demand for career coaching from the 400,000 people who have been made redundant and wish to return to work or retrain, and from organisations requiring outplacement services,” added Magner-Flynn.

An Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills, Mary Coughlan TD, commented at the launch: “It has the ability to improve the employability of jobseekers in a potential high-growth area. Career coaching is a requirement in all economic times: in recessionary times, the unemployed and those facing redundancy need career support; students need guidance in choosing suitable courses and career direction; while those in employment need to continually upskill to satisfy labour market needs. This diploma programme will deliver a cohort of much needed professionally-qualified experts, empowered to make a difference to other people’s career paths.”

Career Decisions is an award-winning career coaching company, established in 1994 with offices in Limerick and Dublin and provides a nationwide service.
