IT recycling firm Wisetek is expanding its operations outside of its native Cork with the opening of a new facility in Dublin, creating 20 jobs in the process.
Since it was founded in 2007, Wisetek has been dealing with major ICT corporations to recycle the vast quantities of e-waste generated and ensuring it is all done under established regulations.
The practice of throwing away vast quantities of older tech hardware has been widely criticised by environmental organisations – as well as the UN – but companies like Wisetek are now trying to reign in much of this waste.
With its global headquarters in Cork, the new Dublin operations centre will now join its other international centres located in the US and Thailand.
Announcing the opening of the new facility, Wisetek said it will provide the entire range of Wisetek services to the rapidly expanding data centre sector in west Dublin.
With this expansion, Wisetek also confirmed that 20 jobs would be created across both Dublin and Cork, with a spokesperson for the company saying the jobs will likely be split equally between the two.
Commenting on the opening of the Dublin depot, Wisetek CEO Sean Sheehan said: “There is a significant and growing cluster of data centres in Dublin which has become a hub for global data centre operators.
“Our existing Dublin customers and other companies are increasingly seeking global services solutions, for the optimum management of their used IT infrastructure systems, to ensure that they achieve global standards for data security, financial recovery and full assurance that their used IT systems are being processed to their highest environmental standards.
“Wisetek currently has operations in the USA, Asia and EMEA regions and we are delighted to add Dublin to our expanding global footprint.”
