Facebook reveals most-shared articles of the year

Facebook has released a top 40 list of news articles its members have shared the most in the US across the social network this year.

“The stories range from cute to thought provoking and represent the type of news people have been sharing and discovering with friends in 2011,” Facebook said.

The most-shared article of the year, shared 600,000 times, is an article by The New York Times depicting areas of Japan before and after an earthquake and tsunami that struck on 11 March 2011.

Here are Facebook’s top 10 most-shared stories of the year:
