Microsoft unveils Send, a new app for quick and easy emailing

22 Jul 2015

Microsoft has released a new phone app that can transform any email account into an instant messenger-like service for quick-fire communications.

With Send, users can write and deliver short notes via their devices without a subject line, signature or other formal email constructs, similar to how they would when texting. Microsoft has developed the app for professionals who need to communicate with co-workers on the go.

“Imagine you’re walking into a big presentation and someone asks you to find out if your colleague will be attending,” a company blog post reads. “Chances are, you don’t have your colleague’s phone number, but you will probably have their email address – especially if you’ve been emailing with them recently. You don’t have time to search your inbox, start a new thread, or even type out a subject line. You just want to ask that person, ‘Will you be at the presentation’?”

Send is only available for iPhone in the US and Canada right now, but is coming soon to Windows Phone and Android too. The app works for people with Office 365 business and school email accounts, though Microsoft says it will be more broadly available in the coming months.
