Google Sheep View: The website you didn’t know you needed

29 Jul 2015

I’m sure we’ve all thought to ourselves at some point or another ‘you know what we need? A Google Street View just of sheep’.

Well, wish no more, because Google Sheep View – genius name, to be fair – provides just that.

The premise is simple, if you, a member of the public, spy some sheep on Google Street View, simply sceenshot the scene and write down the location and the guys at Google Sheep View will publish it.

Why, you ask? Well, it’s the internet, so why not?

In fact, Ding Ren and Mike Karabinos, the site’s founders, say they set up the site because they “enjoy the ‘sheep view’ when riding trains in the Netherlands”, and because 2015 is the Year of the Sheep, according to the Chinese zodiac.

But you don’t really care about that, you just want to look at some random sheep on the web!

The site has actually had quite a large number of submissions, with Ireland, unsurprisingly, featuring.

While there’s also submissions from Romania…

And a cheeky one from further south in England…

While the site also acknowledges that sometimes a sheep isn’t always a sheep, with its Outtakes section featuring photos that, on closer inspection, turned out to not be a ‘sheep view’ at all.
